Commodity Trading Training
Commodity trading training is a process of instruction that allows one to get a better understanding on the phenomena occurring within the commodity market and to develop one's potential in the field. First of all, before approaching the concept of training in this domain, one needs to know what a commodity market is. The market where raw or primary products are traded is called commodity market. The trades involve the issuing of a standardized contract, the raw materials being exchanged for regulated commodities. The majority of commodity trading courses focus on explaining the key concepts encountered in this type of market and illustrate them through simulations of real commercial situations. In USA, this type of training courses are organized in several modules. The first module makes an introduction to the notion of commodity, classifications.
Another aspect tackled with within the module is the evolution in time of the methodologies to trade commodities. Therefore, the subject is approached from a historical perspective. Next level of training aims at studying the types of commodities. Each one is minutely described relative to relevant market events. Sources, prices, costs of obtaining them are taken into consideration. There are five main types of commodities: grains, energy, metals, softs (cotton, coffee, cocoa, sugar, lumber) and livestock (cattle, hogs). The following modules will be dedicated to comprehensively treat each type of commodity. Energy and metals are both labeled under the class of industry commodities. Case studies are chosen to illustrate issues that result from the trading of these commodities. The analysis does not restrict only to commercial domain as it relates to political contexts too. Both positive and negative sides are presented when assessing the influence of the trade with a particular commodity. Commodity trading training aims at non- and specialized target segments such as: commodity traders, dealers and traders, investments professionals, capital markets professionals, treasury staff, trade finance staff and others.
